Beatriz Pereira

PhD Candidate

Hi! My name is Beatriz, I'm from Portugal and I am an ambitious and enthusiastic marine biologist with the desire to make a difference! I’ve worked as a research fellow at Laboratório Marítimo da Guia for two years, where I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of fascinating organisms, including sharks, cleaners, and more. My current research, which I am undertaking as a PhD candidate at the lab, focuses on the evolution of cleaner wrasse cognition and social behavior, as well as their resilience to climate change.

I believe that my research not only has the potential to provide fundamental knowledge on this topic, but also to contribute to the development of conservation strategies to protect these little brainiacs and the coral reefs they inhabit.

I’m an energetic and positive person (sometimes all over the place) who loves to travel, scuba dive, and spend time in nature. Music is a big part of my life and I really enjoy singing (I know the lyrics to every song but I’m hard on the ears most of the times. Sorry, not sorry!). I am also very sporty and have been actively practicing boxing for the past two years (you better watch out!). Finally, can’t see a dog without saying HI!
