Catarina Barros
Master student / Research Initiation Fellow
Hello!
My name is Catarina (most call me by my last name, though), and I’m a nature enthusiast Portuguese girl. Because of this, my studies have taken me from my Biology degree to post-graduate programmes in Environmental Studies and Sustainability and Marine Sciences, and now I’m currently taking my master’s degree in Conservation Biology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
t is hard for me to choose a specific field of interest, but I can narrow it (just a bit) down to ecology and biogeography, species interactions, animal behaviour and climate change impacts. It would be a dream come true to have the opportunity to explore the world and its wonder, and so I hope to build a career in science that allows me to do it all.
Due to my clumsiness, I’m not good with sports, but I love to swim (maybe it is more accurate to call it being in the water without drowning) and hike (with some falls and scratches, which is always a good laugh). I also enjoy cooking (for others), a good book, and a beer (or more) accompanied by lupin beans and a good conversation. I do not function until I’ve had my coffee and will stop to say hi and try to pet any dog that passes by.
Catarina's work is supported through a Research Initiation Fellowship within the project "ChangingMoods: Ecological role of unsophisticated cognition within cleaning mutualisms in a changing ocean” ref PTDC/BIA- BMA/0080/2021, funded by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P.
